The topic of this thread is about Bush throwing out the first pitch. I also love Sarah Polin. She is wonderful. Her stance on the only female issue left in America cost her. I say, this government should make it a crime, pass legislature to outlaw sex outside of wedlock. How about that! I saw The Hold Steady at Jake's on Saturday night. It was an awesome show-- good old-fashioned rock and roll. They were all having a good time, playing hard, and rockin out. It was refreshing to see a band having fun, appreciating their fans, and not being pretentious douchebags.

My love for the band (the lead singer especially) was confirmed when the lead singer said "There is so much joy in what we're doing here". That's the way music should be.

Last night I started rewatching Dave Chapelle's Block Party, which reminded me how I could probably watch the entire DVD every day and not get sick of it. What I wouldn't give to see Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, John Legend, Jill Scott, ?uestlove, Erykah Badu, Kanye West, and more. I love the live performances, but it's also really cool to see clips of all the artists hangin out and interacting with each other. They're, like, REAL people. Who woulda thought?

The other day I was driving my car, listening to WIUX, and they were playing a song that had an old-school soul sound. I called the station to ask who was singing, and found out it was Jamie Lidell. I was first introduced to Jamie Lidell when his song, A Little Bit More, was featured in a Target commercial. I liked that song a lot, but it pales in comparison to the song I heard on WIUX, "Another Day". Check it out:

I've listened to this song about 50 times in the past 2 days. It surprised me that the guy singing this song is a skinny, Jewy-looking, white British dude. Cuz damn, he's got soul. Not that skinny, Jewy-looking, white British dudes can't have soul, but you know...

Anyway, since my rediscovery of Jamie Lidell, I've been trying to listen to more of his music. I find it pretty hit or miss. A lot of it's a little too electronic for my tastes, but there are some gems. I really like the song "Multiply", and found a remake that I like even more: Multiply (In a minor key), with piano by Paul Gonzalez (who I've never heard of). In my humble opinion, the piano in this song is PERFECT. I can't stop listening.

While I am encouraged and inspired by the results of the presidential election, I can't help but feel disheartened because of all of the anti-gay legislation that passed. Perhaps "disheartened" is too tame of a word. I feel ill, angry, hopeless, victimized, lesser than, and full of hate for people who think it's okay to deny rights to an entire group of people just because it makes them "uncomfortable". This legislation is unacceptable, and makes tens of thousands of people feel completely unwelcome in this country. I'm disgusted, and torn between wanting to stay and fight, and wanting to get the hell out of this place.

I really enjoy using Google Image Search to supplement the things I write online. Today, I was trying to describe how hungry I was to my buddy John. I wanted to send him a picture of a woman eating. I Googled "woman eating", and the majority of the pictures showed women eating small salads, pieces of fruit, and chocolate. However, when I Google "man eating", most pictures show men chowing down on hamburgers and pizza (of course, I had to contend with images revolving around man-eating animals). I even found a cartoon of a man with a salad in front of him, looking sad. I guess I'm not surprised by my findings, but it's still pretty gross to me. Talk amongst yourselves.

I finally got a new MacBook, and boy oh boy is it fun!

I haven't had much time to mess around with it (even though I've been home sick with strep the past few days, I haven't felt well enough to explore), but I've been having endless fun with the Photo Booth application. It's funny, because I don't like pictures of myself, but it sure is fun to play with all the effects that come with the program. So, Anna and I took a roadtrip to Chicago. Along the way, we stopped in a gigantic truck stop, and spent way too much time looking around at all the junk. Anna came across this gem. He's incredibly creepy, and when you squeeze his stomach, he goes on a 3-minute laughing/screaming spree. His name is Leroy, and yes, he's looking directly at you.

I had to work from home for the past week. Here is my sweet little fluffy Detective Olivia Benson, keeping me company, and posing like the regal kitten she is.

I can't look at this picture without bursting into laughter. This is Anna's cat, Minky. Sometimes Minky thinks she's people, and she tries to sit like people. I can't get over it.

I know that all of my faithful blog readers are just dying for an update! So pop open a refreshing beverage (I've recently become fond of Coke Zero), expel any excess gas from your body, and delve into my list-o-things:

I've stepped down from my reign as the Collins Student Services Assistant (a.k.a. Duty Booty), and started a job as a User Support Specialist on the UITS Knowledge Management team. This team works to update, maintain, and develop the IU Knowledge Base, as well as several other KBs. I've been at UITS since August 4th, and love it so far.
I will likely take 1 class per semester in the IU Masters in Public Health program, starting this fall.
Yesterday I bought an Etch-A-Sketch, and I plan to really hone my Etch-A-Sketching skills. Perhaps I will start a Blog-A-Sketch, or Etch-A-Blog, although the Etch-A-Sketchist has already beat me to the punch.
Trichotillomania sucks.
Ice cream is delicious.
My friend Katie started a blog called The Local Tourist, where she visits various places in St. Louis and blogs about them, even though she's from St. Louis and currently lives there. This makes me want to create a local tourist blog for Bloomington.

According to Wikipedia, which is an incredibly reliable source, the new medicine that I'm taking has a variety of side effects. However, there is one that I'm really hoping for:

In about 5% of patients, it can instead cause inadvertent orgasms when yawning.

By "instead" the article is referring to the ejaculation difficulties that the med may cause.

So, I sold my Epiphone Casino earlier this year, because I almost never played it, could never keep it in tune, and needed money. Soon after I sold the guitar, I got together with my lady friends Jada B and Clara, and we decided that it was absolutely necessary to start a motown/funk-inspired all-girl band named The Ladyquakes. Of course, by the second band practice, I wished that I had an electric guitar.

Last Sunday after band practice, my ladyfriend and I went to Roadworthy to check out their stock of electrics, but they were closed. However, in the window were 4 vintage-looking electric guitars that would all be PERFECT for use in The Ladyquakes. The two that stuck out in my mind were a bright magenta Fender Nashville Telecaster, and a blue-green glittery Danelectro DC3. On Monday I went to Vance Music to check out their supply. I played an all-black Fender Telecaster Custom, which felt totally rockin. I almost bit the bullet and bought it, but I couldn't stop thinking about the beautimous axes in the window of Roadworthy.

I returned to Roadworthy, where I tried out the Fender, Danelectro, and a PRS (which was a little more pricey, but still on sale, and a great guitar). While the PRS was the highest quality, I fell completely in love with the Danelectro. I'd never played a Danelectro electric guitar before(although a friend has a super cool-lookin Danelectro bass), but I knew this was the guitar for me! I brought the guitar to the front counter, and declared, "I would like to purchase this guitar!" (a phrase I've only been able to say twice in my life before, and it feels great every time). For some reason they know me by name at Roadworthy, probably because I'm a girl, I can play guitar, and while I'm not there often, I'm a loyal customer. I got the guitar at a $30 discount off the tagged price, including the original hard case in wonderful condition and an extra set of strings at no charge. Huzzah!

Ain't she a beaut'? Little known fact-- Jimmy Page, in his early Zeppelin days, played an early model of the DC (the 59 DC). I have proof!

But Page's Danelectro only had 2 single-coil pickups. Mine has three! Suck on that one, Page! Maybe if you had 3 pickups on your Danelectro, you wouldn't have sold out.

Also, mine goes to eleven.

I'm pretty sure I'm well on my way to rock stardom.

Wanted: Practice Baby

Hi!!!
We are a young couple who are SO excited about someday having a baby!

I guess you can say that "someday" is the key word here. You see, we're still in our mid 20s. We go out on week nights, spend most of our paychecks, and partake in the use of recreational drugs on occasion (nothing hard, 420 only).

But that doesn't mean that we aren't very loving and responsible people! We have paid our rent on time for 2 years straight and have extremely moderate credit scores. We care for many pets - a dog, 2 cats, tropical fish, and a chinchilla - all of which are happy and healthy. Our pets are like our family, and I think it's safe to say that we have a wonderful family!!

Like we said up front, we are simply elated by the prospect of one day having a child of our own. We are confident that we will make wonderful parents, but since we are young and inexperienced we feel that we need some practice first. We know as well as you probably know, you just can't be too prepared when raising your own actual biological child. That is where we are hoping you can help us.

We are looking for a child, age 3 months to 2 years, that we can borrow and/or have for an indefinite period of time (whatever you feel comfortable with). Now before you think we're completely "loco," please know that we are aware that this is a very unusual request. That is why we would like to meet you and your child at least once to make sure your (our) baby is happy and healthy, and gets along with our current family (pets). Again, we think we would make totally awesome parents. Neither of us discriminate against race, sexual orientation or height/weight.

The Jill Scott show was absolutely amazing. She's an incredible performer, and I've never been that close at a show before. We couldn't bring our cameras in, but I snapped a few shots on my cell phone. Behold her glory!

Everything was perfect - her performance, the set list, the band, the crowd, the environment, my date... I couldn't have asked for a better show!
